Blend In or Stand Out???

I was reading A Separate Peace. I thought it was really good but in the beginning, the one thing that the main character wanted the most, was to bend in. This made me think about how unoriginal people are. I wonder why the majority of girls in our school wear those female tuxedo shoes and skinny jeans. I wonder why the majority of guys in our school have their pants at their knees. I must admit that i am apart of the skinny jeans thing but it makes me kind of sad to know that being original and interesting isn't "in fashion".

I also wonder who brought these clothing items into fashion. to be honest, i would be pissed off if i wore one thing on day and then every one was wearing the same thing on the next day. I also wonder if that particular item is a part of one persons originality. Through making things popular, we are destroying it's originality. I don't really know what to say about designers. This problem with originality is the same thing as a designer creating a wonderful item and a bunch of other companies take it and make it their own by switching the tag. Soon, you don't know who the original designer is.

While processing these thoughts, i got to thinking about why people try so hard to fit in. Why do people spend money on worthless items because it will make them popular? Whats the point?  I remember when you could wear almost anything to school and it didn't affect your social life. You could wear long pink velvet skirts and and a tie-dye shirt and still be popular. I wonder what happened to the days when popular didn't exist.

Yes, some people try to make things their own be adding a belt or pin, but it doesn't work. The product is clearly the same thing as it used to be. It's hard to be original and not an out cast at the same time. To those people who can pull it off, i applaud you.

What do you think, blend in, or stand out???
